IMOCO VOLLEY CONEGLIANO WON THE FIRST DERBY BETWEEN MIKASA TEAM UNIFORM

THE PANTHERS DEFEATED IGOR GORGONZOLA NOVARA AND CONQUERED THE ITALIAN SUPER CUP

The Mikasa Team Uniform project has never been so ambitious and competitive in the Italian women’s volleyball championship and the test took place during the Italian Super Cup. To compete for the first trophy of the 2018/19 season were two clubs that chose Mikasa as a technical sponsor. On one side the Italian Champion of Imoco Volley Conegliano, on the sixth consecutive year of sponsorship, on the other the Igor Gorgonzola Novara, our prestigious new entry for the Mikasa Team Uniform.

These two teams are the maximum expression for technical, organizational and budget quality of the Italian women’s movement. After having been dueling last season in all the national competitions (Supercoppa, Coppa Italia and Scudetto), these two teams met in Treviso in front of almost 4000 spectators who came to watch live performances of six protagonists of the 2018 World Championship final: Danesi, De Gennaro and Sylla for Imoco Volley Conegliano and Egonu, Chirichella and the gold medalist Stefana Veljkovic for Igor Gorgonzola Novara. Imoco Volley Conegliano, coached by Daniele Santarelli, with a 3-1 win over Novara, repeated the 2016 victory and conquered the fifth title of their history.

In the first two set Conegliano has controlled the game even though both were equally strong teams. Under 2-0 came out the great pride of a team like Novara. Coach Barbolini has given balance and experience with the eternal Francesca Piccinini and has relied on the powerful spikes of Paola Egonu. Movements that seemed to be able to write another end to the match until Wolosz and her teammates changed their rhythm again. A spike by Miriam Sylla kicked off the party.

Among the winners Ms. Miyu Nagaoka, the spiker in the Japanese National Team, at her first experience in Italy moved from Hisamitsu Springs in Japan. Her name enters the history of Italian women’s volleyball: she is the first Japanese player to have won a title in Italy. The media coverage of this event was also record-breaking: there were 115 nations that broadcasted the match.
